On Thurs., Feb. 25, Students Organized to Stand with Haiti transformed Miller Forum into a carnival.SOS Haiti reached out to other clubs on campus for the event, which was held in order to raise money for Haiti through Partners in Health. The event raised around 425 dollars, making it the largest individual fundraiser for SOS Haiti events on campus.
To date, SOS Haiti has raised around $2,500 to send to Partners in Health, which is one of the most transparent non-profit groups in the country. Fifteen of the campus' clubs from all areas of interest were at the event, including many fraternities and sororities, the Bio Club, Amnesty International, Synapse, and SHARE.
Three a cappella groups and two bands, the Girls Next Door, Dynamics, In Acchord, TV Babysitter, and Grant Harris, performed at the carnival. Food and games were available for a small donation, leading to a successful night of fundraising for an incredibly deserving cause.
Stephen Holden '10, who planned the event, expressed his overall perception that the event went very well. "Despite the snow, people came and showed great support for this cause. After the earthquake, thousands of people were left homeless and in dire need of medical care. I'm glad that I am a part of a campus-wide movement to alleviate the problems of this troubled country.
