To Muhlenberg College Students: We know that the student body has concerns about the social life on our campus and the College is responding in an aggressive manner. Early this semester Becky Grace formed a "Programming Group" that includes students from MAC, Greek organizations, athletes and representatives from each class as well as administrators. They meet regularly to determine students' highest priorities for social activities.

Several events that emerged as a results of this endeavor including the Pat McGee Concert, the DZ/Sigma Phi Epsilon Dance, the Junior Class/Phi Kappa Tau Black Lite Party and the 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. Pool tables and foosball and air hockey games will be available in the Red Door beginning Mar. 31, 2003. Several other events are in the planning stage and will be taking place later this semester. In order to support these programming activities, President Steffy has allocated the necessary additional resources.

We also know that there was some discussion of a gathering on Monday to protest the lack of adequate social life activities on the campus. While the issues are certainly valid, the timing for such a demonstration was clearly not good given world events. Student leaders stepped forward and took a proactive position to make sure the issues were addressed, but in a way that did not send out the wrong signal about our campus priorities. We applaud our students for taking this position and demonstrating once again their good judgment. Thanks for being sensible in a difficult time.
