Hey there Mules! Hope you had a pleasant winter break. I'm sure you all had your share of home cooked meals and baked goods, not to mention perhaps overindulging during some New Year celebrations. Hey, it's the holidays, that's what they're for!
Now it's time to get back on track. New Year, a new future is ahead. According to some, it may be our last, so let's make it count! Remember the age-old tradition of making resolutions? Well, they're a pretty cool thing, actually. Here are some tips to cover the typical New Year's resolutions: exercising, eating healthier and living better.
We have a great gym facility here on campus. Membership comes with tuition, so go get your money's worth! Remember that silly fitness and wellness class we all had to take. That was to teach you how to use our gym. Did anybody pay attention? If you didn't, don't worry; all the equipment has instructions for proper use written on them. Schedule a time to go to the gym as if it is a class. Perhaps make it a Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday thing. Or a Monday/Wednesday/Friday thing. Fit it into your schedule and discipline yourself to go. And did you know we have a pool? Swimming is great exercise and great fun. Grab some friends, grab your suit, and go!
Our campus dining is one of the best among colleges, believe it or not. Take advantage of our wide variety of options. Get some color on your fiesta ware plates, especially greens! Take inventory of your plates, and try to get some of every food group on there. Grab a banana or an orange with your dinner. Maybe get a glass of milk instead of a soda. Our salad bar is pretty tasty and easily customizable with the variety of options. Try getting some of the meat from Magellan's or the Chef's Table and throwing it on top of a bed of mixed greens. Maybe for lunch hour, hit the gym then head over to Cyclone Salads for something tasty and nutritious. The most dangerous part of our dining is our desserts. They're tasty and readily available. They're okay once in a while, but try to lay off the nightly slice of cake. Personally, I love fro-yo because it's fat free. And a great way to have the occasional sweet splurge without feeling too guilty.
How is your desk looking? Now's the time to dig through those drawers and clear out the clutter, before classes get too demanding. Reorganize your bookshelf and notebooks. Planners are on sale in the bookstore. For Christmas, I got a big dry-erase calendar to stick on my wall. It's a great way to keep track of important dates, especially because I can move things and change things easily as college life gets pretty crazy.
What about lifestyle beyond the classroom? Are there friends you've lost touch with? Family members you maybe should call more often? Are you waking up on Sunday mornings regretting the night before? New semester, new you. Time to rethink what your life is like and make some smart decisions that can lead to good habits, good relationships, and a good life.
