The Mules may not have started off last week with a bang, but they sure ended with one.
The Mules fell 5-2 to Ursinus, who is ranked fourth in the nation, but regained composure as they convincingly defeated Swathmore, 3-0.
Keeping with the records this season, the two goals scored on Saturday were both scored by Senior co-Captain Kristen Bruschi.
Bruschi has been selected to represent the Mules field hockey team at the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Star Game.
Bruschi was named to the nineteen-member South Squad. The Squad will take on the North at Westfield State College in Westfield, Mass., on Nov. 20.
Bruschi scored the first goal of the match during the first five minutes, but Ursinus fought back scoring three goals in the first half and two more in the second half.
Bruschi scored her second goal late in the second half. Sophomore goalie Lauren Schram made five saves during the game.
The Mules join second-ranked Messiah and fourteenth-ranked Lebanon Valley as the only teams to score two goals against Ursinus College this year.
At the team's last home game, junior forward Adrienne Verbich played a stellar game.
Not only did Verbich start the Mule scoring rally with 11:10 left in the game, but she also scored the next two consecutive goals, giving her her first collegiate career hat trick.
The first goal was scored off of a pass from senior back Pam Coakley to Bruschi, who then hit it to Verbich; she deflected it in the goal.
The assist gave Bruschi the first place spot on the Mules' all-time career list with seventeen career assists.
The Mules' next two goals were scored in a pattern of corner shots by Senior Sarah Fosdick, which were then deflected in by Verbich.
Fosdick noted that this winning combination was the result of hard work. "[Verbich] and I have been coming out before practice to work on that. I would hit the ball, and she would work on tipping it in. I'd hit light balls, and she'd say 'hit it harder,'" Fosdick said.
