The Mules women’s cross country team had their best finish all season this weekend at the Centennial Conference Championships. The Mules finished fourth, their highest finish at the race ever.

“We are so excited to have finished in such a great spot. We have all been working really hard since preseason in August, so we are very proud of what we accomplished this weekend,” Junior Karen Mount said.

After the top three runners from each team crossed the finish line, Swarthmore College was beating the Mules by over twenty points.

Sophomore Chrissy Grandjean and Freshman Laura Clinton were the next two Mules to cross the line, coming in 30th and 33rd, respectively.

Their finish gave the Mules the important points they needed to finish in fourth place by two points when the Garnet’s fourth and fifth came in 40th and 45th.

Senior captain Jenna Belisonzi became the first Mules runner to cross the finish line this weekend, which earned her All-Centennial Conference honors.

She was also the first Mules runner to place in the top five since Amanda Wachter came in third at a Centennial Conference meet in 1993. Belisonzi finished with a time of 23 minutes and 43 seconds.

“I think that doing so well this weekend really puts our team in a positive light for the Conference,” said Belisonzi.

“We placed well and overall had very strong times, which will set the bar even higher for the future when we compete down the road,” continued Belisonzi.

Belisonzi was closely followed by Mount, who finished with a time of 25 minutes and fourteen seconds.

Gearin was the third Muhlenberg runner to finish, coming in 25th place with a time of 25 minutes and 22 seconds.

“The younger runners have been working hard as well, and have been doing great things for our team. [Clinton and Grandjean] really pulled through for us this weekend to help us get the amazing finish that we had, and I am so proud of them for working as hard as they have been,” Belisonzi said.

“We really did a great job this weekend, and my teammates pulled through to help us with the great finish. I think we are really starting to come together, and I could not be happier with where we are right now,” Mount said.

Dickinson, ranked thirteenth in Division III, won its fifth consecutive Centennial Conference title.

The Mules men, similar to the women, battled Dickinson and Swarthmore Colleges for second place throughout the race, but finished in fourth as well.

Junior Alexander Hotz earned second-team All Centennial Conference honors by finishing fourteenth with a time of 27 minutes and seventeen seconds.

The second Mules runner, Sophomore Stephen Rothwell, came in 23rd, with a time of 27 minutes and 46 seconds.

Haverford College placed twelve of the top nineteen runners to win the Centennial Conference championships for the twelfth year in a row.
