Not only did the Mules defeat Ursinus 4-0 on Saturday morning, but they clinched the fifth and final playoff spot in the Centennial Conference Saturday night when Swarthmore College defeated Haverford College 3-1.

The Mules (8-7-2, 5-3-1) finished in a three-way tie for fourth place ranking and Franklin and Marshall was 1-0-1, Muhlenberg 1-1 and Gettysburg 0-1-1. This caused Gettysburg to be eliminated and Franklin and Marshall became the fourth seed.

Had Haverford upset Swarthmore, it would have resulted in a four-way tie for third place, and the Mules would have been eliminated when the tiebreakers were applied.

The Mules will travel to Lancaster for the second time this season to face Franklin & Marshall in the first round of the Centennial Conference playoffs on Wednesday because Franklin and Marshall won the first match, 4-2.

With a disappointing start to their regular season, the Mules are ending their regular season on the opposite not, finishing with a five game winning streak.

Not only have they won their last five games, but the Mules are averaging nearly four goals per game and shut out their last four Centennial Conference opponents.

“I’m very excited about making the playoffs, especially because this is my first year playing,” freshmen defender Jonathan Kliewer said. “We didn’t think our team had a chance to make it, but we fell into a hot streak, and we began putting the ball into the net. We changed our lineup up a little bit and started creating more of an offensive spark.”

“Overall our team just picked ourselves up and started playing our game and winning. We have a lot more confidence now and we are on roll... If we keep this up, we have a definite chance of winning the Centennial Conference playoffs,” said Kliewer.

The Mules dominated Ursinus College, who have not won a single Centennial Conference game yet this year, but who have only lost by one goal to top Centennial Conference teams such as Johns Hopkins University and Swarthmore College.
