The Mules season came to an end on Saturday when they traveled to Washington College (14-15, 3-7).

In a slow first game, the ’Berg dropped the first set 30-19. After this loss, it was back and forth as the Mules won the second set and Shorewomen won the third. (25-30, 30-21) The Mules won the fourth set 30-19 to force a fifth set. The ’Berg prevailed in the end, edging out the Shorewomen 15-12.

Junior Julie Lauro contributed 26 kills, twelve digs and five blocks. Those digs put her career total to 1,001 digs, making her only the third player in team history with 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. She also finished with a school record of 4.99 kills per game, beating the old record of 4.60 by Allison Verduin in 1999.

Lauro was not the only player killing the ball. Freshman Jess Anselmi finished the game with a career high of fourteen kills, while Sophomore Kate Haggerty added eleven with three aces.

The defense was led by Jen Wiest, who had 28 digs. This makes her the only player to have two 400 dig seasons. Sophomore Kristin Caparro tallied a career-high fourteen digs while Junior Mary Henning added 40 assists in the win.

The Mules ended ranked sixth in the Centennial Conference. They were just one Centennial Conference win shy of the playoffs. With the young team, they have potential. The team has no seniors and the whole squad will return. Sophomore Monica Sella stated, “I am looking forward to practicing during the off season and preparing for next season. If the entire team practices hard during the off season, we will come back as a big threat to our competitors.”
