A half-back option play produced a Bullet interception deep in the Mules territory. After a 40 yard drive, a tight-end screen play brought the ball to the Mules first yard line, but Johnson rushed to the endzone for his third touchdown in his collegiate carrer, and Grube followed with the extra point.
The Bullets saw another chance to grab some points when the running back found a hole and made his way to the endzone, but Junior Dan McCall made a touchdown-saving tackle just in time.
Senior Dan Walker followed with a tackle for a loss, setting Gettysburg up for a long 4th down pass into their endzone, intercepted by Junior Justin Adair. This was the second big interception in the game.
A flying catch by Giannini set off another long drive for the Mules. Back at the Gettysburg 2 yard line, an offensive pass interference gave the bullets possession, only to be lost in down attempts.
The game closed with the Mules winning easily by a score of 21-0, continuing their winning streak and sending them off to a big match against McDaniel this Saturday on a win.
The team has shown incredible consistency this season, both in their statistical numbers and their performance. With such an outstanding season so far, who is responsible for their unity on the field, as well as off?
Sophomore Dustin Martin commented that most of the credit goes to Coach Donnelly and the team leaders that feed off him. “Our coach is great, as far as defense goes, there is no better coach in the league. He makes sure we are well prepared and gives us the best chance to win every Saturday,” said Martin.
One star that feeds off this strong defensive performance is Senior co-Captain Mike Della Pella. Martin stated that “Della Pella provides such a great attitude on and off the field. He’s a great team player--a leader.”
He went on to describe Della Pella as a “hard-nose defender with the ‘play every play like it’s your last’ attitude. Now as captain he has the role of responsibility thrust on him, and it translates onto the rest of us out there.”
