And the winner is...

With the Grammy Awards only a few weeks behind us, we are giving out a few awards of our own. Based on their statistical rankings and overall presence around campus, these winter athletes have what it takes to shine as this week's:

Classy Sportsman: Dennis Severino '05
Every year the Centennial Conference recognizes a player as Sportsman of the Year. With a positive attitude and great leadership skills, Severino, a co-captain on the Men's Basketball team, is one of the nominees from Muhlenberg.

Team Comeback: Men's Basketball vs. McDaniel
Trailing by nine points in the second half, the Mules made a comeback to win the game 78-74. The game was significant, establishing Coach Madeira as the winningest coach in the College's history and breaking the team's four game losing streak.

Player Exceeding Expectations: Jeff Stewart '07
After a rookie season where he led the team in scoring, shooting and shot-blocking, Stewart is exceeding expectations, averaging 20.6 and 9.9 rebounds per game. He also just notched his ninth double double of the season.

Milestone Maker: Ryan Bonda '05
In 2003 he had the highest scoring game by an active Mule, with 37 points against Widener University. This past month he scored his 100th three pointer, becoming the eighth player in the College's history to do so.

Statistical Rankings: Women's Basketball
Gwen Doyle is fifth in the Conference with 27 points in a game against Haverford; she ranks first in the Conference for three point goals in the same game. Junior Kristen Piscaldo is first in the Centennial Conference with steals in a game. Piscaldo and Senior Aril Bryant are first and second in the Conference for assists in a game. As of Jan. 9, the team leads the nation with an amazing 90 points per game.

Academic All-Star: Aril Bryant '05
This past month Bryant was named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Scholar-Athlete Team. She is an art major and aside from excelling in the classroom, she shines on the court, ranking twelfth in team history with 158 career assists.
