Communication Lecturer Dr. Schneider dies at age 66

Dr. James Schneider, Communication Lecturer, died early Friday morning. Schneider had been diagnosed with lung cancer at the end of the fall 2004 semester and had contracted pneumonia about one week before his death. He was 66. Schneider worked at the College from 1987 to 1993 and returned in 1998 to teach until his recent death.

Campus Safety Notes

Jan. 31 - Suspicious Activity - Campus Safety identified and gave a letter of trespass to an individual in the Trexler Library. Feb. 1 - Harassment By Communication - A student in Prosser Hall reported a credit card company was calling and asking for personal information.

Trend toward cocaine and other drugs goes unnoticed

"It makes you feel all crazy like, plus it's not bad for you; like, you can't get lung cancer from it," she said. Cocaine use on campus is not advertised on message boards or addressed by a special Task Force; however, some students at the College live with addiction every day.

Seniors under 21 fight for right to attend 100 Days

As the senior class's enthusiasm grew in excitement during the week for the upcoming 100 Days celebration, a certain segment of the class was left unable to share the excitement of participating. In all there were seven students who were prohibited from attending the event due to the fact that they were all under 21.

The Underground receives a new look

The Martin Luther Underground is currently undergoing a face-lift. Built in the summer of 1994, the Underground was the scene of a weekly coffee house sponsored by the Residence Hall Association (RHA). However, not long after opening, daily patronage began to dwindle.

Series on technology and ethics begins

The Center for Ethics began its new series entitled "Ethics in the Information Age." On Monday night, the College hosted the first speaker of the series Dr. Langdon Winner. He gave a lecture entitled "Will New Technology Revitalize Democracy." Winner is a professor of political science in the Department of Science and Technology Studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
