Last semester was very exciting at the College and much has changed. For instance, there was a growing awareness of key events occurring on campus, coverage of big issues that resulted in great debate, and a much-needed reflection on the semester in general. Before I further discuss these changes in retrospect, I think it is important to acknowledge The Weekly staff for providing a very accurate and interesting newspaper last semester.
The Weekly is unlike many other clubs and organizations on campus. The writers and editors of the newspaper exert great time and effort producing a publication that they deem informative of current and upcoming campus events for the entire Student Body. These individuals are highly dedicated and spend hours, for example, coming up with new ideas, planning for future stories, editing current articles and constantly worrying about the final draft of the newspaper before it arrives in Seegers every Thursday morning. As the new semester rolls around, I urge everyone to voice their opinion in the paper because it is important that we help support a constructive dialogue in our college community. The future of the organization relies upon new members who are interested in spreading information to the College. They are looking for new ideas and/or opinions on matters that may be occurring on campus and that can facilitate change throughout the College. The Weekly is vital to the College because we need a paper that can effectively communicate with the Alumni of the school and/or other friends and family that may want to remain close with our community.
The Weekly wants the entire College community to consider the issues and events that may be occurring on campus, and to submit articles to the paper. Additionally, we are looking for opinions of potentially controversial topics for debate. Look to the successful debates regarding Urinetown, hookahs, baby sciences, Sodexho, and other topics. We were effectively able to discuss these issues and help foster solutions. Thus, we urge everyone to write and become a part of The Weekly staff. Have a great and successful semester, and we looking forward to hearing your opinions!
