Scott Celani, a musican who performed in Seegers' Lobby, offered a Friday night alternative for those who wished to stay on campus. Together with a three-person band, he performed a setlist of mostly original pop-rock songs from his two CD releases, "Them Apples" (2002) and "Saturday" (2004).
Celani had an impressive voice that fit perfectly with both slow and upbeat songs alike. His musical influences range from Stevie Wonder to R.E.M. to more obvious rock bands, such as Vertical Horizon.
Despite being a lesser known musician, his music has been featured on radio stations around the country. Additionally, he has opened for bands such as Sum 41 and Good Charlotte. Also, though he has been performing with a band for this tour, he often performs acoustic songs, which is obvious in many of his songs since they heavily rely on his guitar.
Not only were the songs enjoyable, but in between the songs, he and his band members were very entertaining. They prefaced most of their songs with an anecdote or two.
For instance, he performed a song from his first album called "Delhi," and shared his shock after having a group of college-aged students cheer because, surprisingly, they were from Delhi. Also, the percussionist, Larz Rizzuto, had the misfortune of his drum set being placed directly in front of the fireplace in Seegers. Suffice to say, there were many a joke about a fire down the back of his pants.
However, it was unfortunate that the concert had to take place at the couches in Seegers - and not only because of unfortunate placement of the drums. The music was too loud for the room and too intense for the small crowd attending the concert. Because of this, it was often difficult to understand the lyrics.
Despite certain technical difficulties, the concert as a whole was an enjoyable way to spend part of the weekend.
Hopefully though, if Celani does return he will at least be performing in The Red Door.
