Issue date: 2/1/07 Section: News
As a part of The Theory and Art of Magic program, a trip to Las Vegas over Spring Break has been planned through the Office of Alumni Relations and Larry Hass, Professor of Philosophy and founding father of the bi-annual program established in 1999.

"The program has been tremendously received with incredible popularity. The program is open to everyone and draws unique and diverse audiences composed of staff, students, faculty, professional and amateur magicians," said Hass.

As of right now, 22 people have registered for the trip. The program fee is $450, which includes a 3-day magic program hosted by Hass, featuring top magicians such as Jeff McBride, Eugene Burger, Mac King, and Penn & Teller, daily lunch and snacks, a farewell dinner, and tickets to a premiere Las Vegas Show. In addition, many of these world-class magicians will be giving talks on the philosophy of their magic and why they do it, presentations and private shows.

Hotel accommodations are not included in this price, but run at the group rate of $70 per room, per night, single or double occupancy at The Orleans Hotel & Casino. The hotel promises to be its own memorable experience with a 70-lane bowling center, nine restaurants, a 18-screen movie theater and over 140,000 square feet of casino.

The new partnership with Alumni relations and premiere Las Vegas brainchild is the result of swelling alumni interest to extend the program. Since the program was founded in 1999, many former College students have been able to partake in its series and repeatedly come back for more. To meet this continuing and growing interest, plans have been laid for The Theory and Art of Magic program to become an annual series.

"The reason for moving the program to an annual basis is to meet the growing interest in its series as well as to spread out its huge nature," said Hass.

On the same note, Majorie Hass, Provost and Professor of Philosophy, said, "We want to make it annual to make it less of a huge production. It can be overwhelming."
