While in the office late one production night, a little bird managed to perk us up with some interesting news. Collegeprowler.com gave the College an A- hotness factor when compared to 200 colleges. On the one hand, we can not help but say, "Way to go 'berg! You're looking so fine!" But on the other, who actually chooses their college on the attractiveness of its students? Yes, looks are something most perspective students tend to notice on their tours rather than the number of volumes in the library or student to teacher ratios, but hopefully most people enrolled at the 'berg for its scholastic excellence rather for shallower reasons.
Looks change, as most college students who are exposed to beer and wings can tell you. The freshmen fifteen and overall college bulge, is ultimately inevitable. Students try to take care of themselves as much as they have time for-the gym seems to be busy at all hours of the day-but more importantly we take care of each other, indicating that 'berg students possess something that is more than just skin deep. As cliché as its sounds "the beauty lies within" and as one of our editors said, "Check out any Disney movie for more information." Shrek, for example, depicts a beastly yet humble ogre who chooses to remain as he is rather than transform into a handsome hunk to teach children (and subsequently anyone who enjoys a good cartoon or two) about accepting oneself and appreciating one's inner magnificence. This campus, though criticized for its clone-like pretty, preppy exterior, flaunting girls in heels and guys in polo shirts, has a diversity and beauty of soul. Collegeprowler.com also mentions, "The campus is diverse…when looking at the types of people…when you realize that our top two majors are probably theater and pre-med, you can imagine how different the students are. There are also a lot of religious differences." Include the varying ages of students from the Wescoe School, and Collegeprowler.com hits the nail on the head: the College has a happy balance between diversity and commonality, external and internal "hotness." While our interests, passions and achievements may cover a broad spectrum, our A- beauty isn't only on the outside-it also lies within.
