Tough CC Battles for Wrestlers

On Wed. Jan. 31, the College took a tough loss to Ursinus. A huge turnout of fans watched the team battle, at the time, an undefeated rival. The team came up only six points short. Sophomores Billy Hall (133) and Rob Kein(141) took important decision wins. Senior Matt Loesch (197) took a major decision against his opponent 14-0. Junior Joe Tartar (HWT) pinned his opponent in 3:26. The final team score was 22-16.
This past Saturday the College wrestled their final Centennial Conference bouts. Washington & Lee hosted the College, Ursinus and McDaniel. The Mules lost to W & L, 18-16, but came back to defeat McDaniel 34-16. Washington & Lee surprised spectators with a win over Ursinus, ending their undefeated CC winning streak.
Highlighting the W & L match was sophomore Billy Hall's pin at 133. Also with a win was junior Joe DeCampo taking a major decision over his opponent at 149. Sophomore Matt Horn, 184, took his match 6-4. Senior Matt Loesch also won his bout 6-1 at 197 lb. The College fell by only two points. The team was disappointed, but had more to prove.
The second match-up showed the wrestlers' skill and will to win. Senior Michael Tennenhaus won by forfeit at the 125 lb weight class. Three mules won by pinning their opponents, Hall, Horn and junior Chris Swensen (HWT). Horn took only 1:26 to pin his opponent. Decampo majored his second opponent as well. Junior David Lavin (165 lb) and Loesch took their wins by decision. In a final score of 34-16, the College won their final CC dual-match.
Hall, DeCampo, Horn and Loesch all went 2-0 for the day. Hall and Loesch took their CC dual records to an undefeated 7-0 for this season. Loesch finished his CC dual-match career undefeated in conference match-ups.
The Mules are tied with W & L with a CC record of 5-2. The team stands with an overall record of 5-4-1. This Friday at 7:30 p.m. the College hosts Messiah.
