This weekend the Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams took full advantage of running at the New York City Armory, which is perhaps the fastest indoor track in the country. The track lived up to its reputation, with five individuals and two relay teams producing ECAC qualifying performances at the Lafayette-Rider Games. For the women's team, freshman Alex Faust ran the 200 meters in a time of 26.81 seconds, which tied the school record and qualified her for the ECACs. The 4x800 relay team of junior Sara Gearin, sophomore Kathryn Niedzwiecki, freshman Lauren Conicella and sophomore Laura Lipari finished seventh with an ECAC qualifying time of 10:10.49.

The men's team demonstrated their depth on Saturday, producing five ECAC qualifying performances in the sprints, mid-distance and distance events. In anticipation of this meet, senior Tim Seeley said, "Everyone is looking forward to the Lafayette-Rider Games to post some good marks for the conference meet as well as the ECACs." That is just what the men's team did. Junior Dan Steinhart ran a school record breaking time in the 200 meters, finishing in 23.05 seconds. Sophomore Stuart Udis finished the 800 meters in an impressive time of 1:58.03. Fellow sophomore David Chorney excelled once again in the mile, running the third fastest time in team history. In addition, Chorney's time of 4:19.91 is the fastest mile time this year in the Centennial Conference by more than two seconds. The 4x800 relay team consisting of Udis, Chorney, freshman Patrick Thornton and senior Lex Mercado finished in seventh place with a time of 8:06.34. Lastly, Seeley finished the 3000 meters in 8:57.80. All of the above performances were ECAC qualifying, which bodes well for the weeks to come. Both the men's and women's teams return to competition on Sat., Feb. 17 at the Princeton Invitational, which is their last chance to prepare for Conferences. According to Seeley, "We're really excited to see how our training is going to pay off in the next few weeks, especially at conferences." Based on the results of Saturday, the Mules' chances at conferences look promising. In this critical part of the season, the Mules are right where they want to be, with many athletes peeking and qualifying for the ECACs. The Centennial Conference indoor track championships will take place at Haverford College on March 24th and 25th. The following weekend, several Mules will travel to Wesleyan College in Middletown, CT to compete in the ECAC championships.
