To the Editor:

This week marks a significant time in the future of the College as the Student Body embarks in electing its next Student Body President. At this time last year, I was involved in acquiring signatures, painting a banner, hanging flyers and other campaigning efforts. Although I lost by a mere 12 votes, the true tragedy (besides the ridiculous political slander that took place) was the total number of voters for the election.

505 students participated in voting for a student to represent their voice as the Student Body President. So what? This is barely 25% of the entire Student Body. How can a person represent the students without a sufficient vote from their representative body?

What is a Student Body President? While some argue this position to be a puppet of the administration, this position does have the potential to be more. A Student Body President should actively keep members of Student Council accountable for their actions. A Student Body President should remain unbiased, trustworthy and genuine. A Student Body President should be active in communicating with their constituents, however, at the same time their constituents need to be active in caring about the Student Body President position.

Make the click on Monday. Take the 30 seconds out of your day and vote for your next Student Body President.

Act It. Speak It. Do It!
