On Sat. March 31, students gathered in Memorial Hall to raise money for the Allentown School District's Music Departments and to cheer on their favorite a cappella groups in the annual Acappellafest. All six of the College's a cappella groups performed, and they were joined by visiting groups from Rutgers University and University of Connecticut. The music fest was organized by 'Berg Organization of Musicians (B.O.O.M.).

Noteworthy, the a cappella group that specializes in Broadway showtunes, kicked off the concert with a mixture of old favorites and new songs. Their performance of "The Gods Love Nubia," always one of their strongest numbers, was excellent, as was their new rendition of "Uptown Girl."

The Acafellas took the stage next and, after presenting a brand new song, decided to lighten the mood with "Sometimes I Get Lucky," their Britney Spears medley, and their relatively new and very funny version of "Sexyback."

InAcchord, one of the newest a cappella groups, showed just how much they have grown over the past year with a full set of songs loved by the College audience. "Chasing Cars," "Such Great Heights" and "Push" were only a few of the numbers they selected for Acappellafest and were very well received.

The Girls Next Door premiered a selection of new and recent songs that are constantly played on the radio. Their upbeat performance included "The Sweet Escape" and "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree."

The Chaimonics, the female Jewish a cappella group, performed a few of their favorites--"Salam" and "Yachad" in Hebrew, as well as "Why Do Fools Fall in Love?" Like many of the other groups, they also introduced a few new songs, including an Israeli pop song.

The Dynamics were the last performers, beginning their set with "Chicago" and singing a handful of new and old songs before ending with the crowd-pleasing "Come On Eileen," receiving a great response from the audience as soon as they began.

Once the College's a cappella groups were finished, the Orphan Sporks, the visiting group from Rutgers, proved to be a powerhouse as they performed a medley of No Doubt songs, a rap number and a selection of other songs.
