Six Meters is an improvisational group on campus that promotes improvisation as an art form through performing at various schools, nursing homes, in Philadelphia and various locations on the College campus.

This part of their improvisational concert series was held in The Chapel on Sat., March 31. The Chapel was illuminated only by candlelight as the performers entranced the audience with their unique choreography. The first part of the performance, "Enter," consisted of the performers dancing in the pews as Susan Creitz, Director, played upon a drum and sang.

The way in which the dancers used the pews and archways as devices in their movements was both creative and enthusiastic. Throughout the entire first half, the dancers never left the pews as the audience watched from the opposite end of the chapel.

As the first half progressed in movement, so did the singing and drum playing, which only added to the dynamic performance. That section of the performance came to an end once some of the performers had reached the front of the pews, and had officially entered the chapel.

Between the two sections of the performance, the performers rearranged the candles and brought them closer to the audience where the second half of the show, "Free," would be carried out.

The space and atmosphere of the chapel gave the entire show a spiritual feeling with which everyone could connect. The second half of the show consisted of members of the group reading excerpts out loud while others performed movements either as a response to the reading or while the reading was taking place.

Both the readings and the performances reflected upon the idea of being "freed" from something in one way or another.

The end of the second half culminated in the members being freed from the candles that seemed to be commanding the show. They splashed water onto each other and blew out all of the candles.

In response to the Sat. performance, Meaghan Meehan '09, said "Primarily, I am a dancer and I am insecure about using my voice in a performance. The great thing about the Six Meters group is that the people in it all make me feel comfortable when using my voice for the sound scapes in the Chapel performance."
