Golf Teams find their stroke

Golf has officially begun their new season. On day one of the McDaniel Nike Spring Invitational on Sat., Mar. 31, freshman Kimberly Snyder opened the season in record-breaking fashion for the Mules. She broke her own school record by shooting a three-over par 75 in the first round at the Links at Gettysburg. The next day she came back for round two and shot an 83 on the final 18 holes, giving her a total of 158 to set a new school record for a two-round event.

Snyder and the rest of her team did not get a break. On Mon., Apr. 2, they competed in the Muhlenberg Invitational. The Mules placed second overall out of four complete teams, finishing 27 strokes ahead of third-place Dickinson. With a team score of 384, Muhlenberg recorded their second best score ever, helped by Snyder who shot an 84 for second place, senior Kristen Amore who shot a 91 and junior Dana Lynn Bielecki who finished with 93.

On Fri., Apr. 6, the Mules played through tough weather conditions in the first round of Columbia's Roar-ee Spring Invitational. Snyder once again had a strong showing with a score of 87. Next up was the Ursinus Invitational on Tues., Apr. 10 where Bielecki led the Mules with a score of 99.

The Men's Golf Team has found similar success, opening their season on Mon., Apr. 2 at the Lebanon Valley Spring Tournament. Muhlenberg tied for eighth out of 23 teams in a close contest. Sophomore Bill Snow led the Mules with 82 and freshman Paul D'Auria shot an 84. Next up was the Hershey Country Club East Course for the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic on Thurs. Apr. 12. The Mules finished fourth out of 15 total teams, with junior Garrett Carpenter tying for third out of 84 golfers with a career-low 73. Freshman Biff Slocum also hit a career-low mark with 74, tying for fifth in this competition. At the Lafayette Invitational on Sat., Apr. 14, Muhlenberg found themselves as the only Division III team on the course, but beating two Division I teams. Carpenter again came out with a strong showing, shooting an 81.
