On Wed., Apr. 4, Women's Lacrosse sought out their first victory against the No. 2 Franklin & Marshall Diplomats, but despite a solid effort, was unable to pull it off. Dropping the game 19-9, the Mules fought hard throughout and even took early leads, but could not hold on. Freshman Amanda McGovern led the Mules with a hat trick, and sophomore Ruth Morrongiello and senior Katie Reimann also added two goals apiece, but it was not enough as the Diplomats scored a string of goals in the second half and never looked back.
Shaking off the loss, the Mules then looked to their match against Washington (MD) on Sat., Apr. 7. Playing on their home turf, Muhlenberg was locked in a close one with a tie score with just 4:20 left in the second half. Unfortunately, a foul on the defensive by the Mules set up the game-winning goal for Washington with barely over a minute left. McGovern scored a hat trick yet again and Morrongiello added three goals as well, while defensively junior Maura Lane picked up five ground balls.
Looking to snap their losing streak, the team headed to Bryn Mawr on Wed., Apr. 14. In a Centennial Conference game, the Mules were tied once again in the second half, 9-9. However, the Mules were able to break free and score five more goals to take the win 14-11. Morrongiello had another strong game, recording two goals, while six other players found the back of the net as well. Reimann scored six points (five goals, one assist), junior Taylor Armstrong added six points as well (two goals, four assists) and junior Marissa Capuano finished with two goals, one assist, four caused turnovers and five ground balls. Sophomore Marguerite Farell also contributed defensively, picking up five ground balls while senior Kelli Sakonchick tallied six.
Next up was Swarthmore, and the Mules found themselves with another outcome that was difficult to swallow. The Mules seemed to be in perfect control late in the game, leading 13-7, but in the final minutes, Swarthmore pulled off several straight goals to take the win 14-13. Armstrong tallied five points (four goals and one assist) and sophomore Sara Hiller scored three goals. Sakonchick had another strong defensive outing, picking up seven ground balls, and in goal, Caroline Shadood made 14 saves. The Mules' overall record moved to 8-4 for the season, 2-4 in the Centennial Conference.
