The students of the College were given their first taste of the new talent on campus, as well as some old favorites this past weekend in Seegers Union.

Seegers was graced with the musical talents of several student artists who charmed their audiences with their original or covered lyrical genius and their unmistakable personalities.

The weekend opened Friday night with a performance at the Seegers couches. The headliner was Jason LeVasseur, a traveling artist who has been named "2007 Best Small Venue Artist" by Campus Activities Magazine.

With a comfortable personality and mix of contemporary and original pieces that were predominately stronger instrumentally than vocally, I would say that he lived up to his reputation.

His music was lyrically driven, which enabled the audience to be more engaged with the performance. LaVasseur's performance created a relaxing atmosphere, a good place for one to spend a Friday evening.

Max Seidman '11, followed LeVasseur's act with with a mix of original pieces and cover songs on his guitar and harmonica. His vocal style was similar to any of the known contemporary indie/soft rock musicians.

Truth be told, Seidman's singing was a little less than satisfying, but his skilled and energetic guitar playing and chill stage presence made his routine thoroughly enjoyable.

Next up was Grant Harris '10 on piano, vocals, and swanky headgear. Another performance that was perhaps less than wonderful on the singing, but was jazzed up to "superfunky" with Harris key-pickin' and carefree personality.

Harris also had a variety of original songs and covers (in particular, a couple fun Beatles tunes) for the audience that evening, and exited the stage with an appropriate high note wail during his performance.

Another talented act was Mike Usher '09, on vocals and guitar. He showcased his talents through a variety of musical genres; he even performed an adapted rap song.

His vocals were a bit like Dave Matthews, with his own flavor mixed in. Usher's performance was followed by another Mike of the freshman sort, Mike Bloom '11.

Bloom is a talented musician who captivated the audience with his fun, quirky personality. One audience member even commented on the "great background/ hangout" sound of his music.

The night ended with music from Teddy Lytle '10 and Sam Swan '10. Their act was highlighted by Lytle's finger pickin' good guitar skills and Swan's very effective use of his fiddle.

There were many acts and all the performances were lots of fun, but the unfortunate lack of audience slightly dampened the mood, so next performance, all students should come and support all of the College's talent.
