Last year, Muhlenberg soccer was sadly defeated by Gettysburg College in the first round of the Centennial Conference playoffs, but the memory of loss was replaced by an exceptional win on Saturday. Enduring the two hour trek to Gettysburg, the team prepared for a night under the lights. After winning three straight games at the beginning of the season, the Mules lost two games to Franklin & Marshall, regionally ranked third, and Elizabethtown, regionally ranked fourth. However, they regrouped and came back with a solid win on the road.

During the first half of the game, Gettysburg was on the board with a single goal. It was not until the second half that the Mules were able to tie up the score, courtesy of captain Billy Dalton, '09. The Mules had to contend with a team averaging over six feet as well as a rowdy crowd. With the end of the second half tied, Muhlenberg prepared to fight through overtime.

About three minutes into extended time, Sam Haydon crossed the ball from behind to Brendan Carroll, who headed the ball in for a Muhlenberg victory. Carroll's goal marked the team's first Centennial Conference win out of a five-game stretch. They face fifth-seeded Dickinson and second-seeded Johns Hopkins in the coming weeks.
