A Hopeless Situation

By Joe Caporoso

The belief that Western and Islamic civilization can't live in peaceful cooperation is not a new one. Samuel Huntington controversially wrote "The Clash of Civilizations" about a decade ago, and the idea has seemed to fulfill itself over the past few years.

Being 'Berg's Van Wilder

By Stacy Romascavage

I graduated from Muhlenberg College this past May with a B.A. in Media and Communication with a minor in Political Science. This fall, I was planning on attending Hofstra University to obtain a Masters degree in Journalism. I did enjoy journalism, but I was not in love with it to the extent to pursue a career in that field.

Divest

By Barbara Macholz and Jacy Good

It has been about 60 years since the Holocaust, 28 since the end of the genocide in Cambodia, 13 since the end of the genocide in Bosnia, 12 since the end of the genocide in Rwanda and four since the beginning of the genocide in Darfur, Sudan that has killed and continues to kill upwards of 300,000 people.

Starting to feel the heat

By Muhlenberg Weekly Executive Board

During our time working at The Weekly, we have used student apathy and a lack of student dedication to fuel many editorials. While this continues to be a big problem at the College, there is another side to this argument. What does the College provide for its dedicated and responsible student leaders? Over the course of the past few weeks there have been a few highly valued leaders threatening to resign and others dreading to complete their weekly obligations to their organizations on top of an already heavy course load.

More sex in the sex column please

By Alex Winogora '08 & Kirill Meleshevich '08

To the Editor: We, along with the majority of Muhlenberg students, pick up a copy of the Weekly for two principle reasons: the crime reports and the sex column. Its a sad occurence when the crime blotters are more about sex than the actual sex column.

An Unfair Goodbye to Joe Torre

By Joe Beninati

This past weekend brought about the end of one of the greatest eras that can be witnessed as a New York Yankee fan. The team had the talent, they had the drive, and they had the excellent leadership that can win a championship. Unfortunately, one of the most important pieces of the puzzle is gone.

Dumbledore sexually repressed

By Adrian Shanker

Dumbledore may be gay, but the queer community has more to worry about at the present than fan fiction. It is certainly worthy of note that Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling, has out-ed Hogwarts Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. While Dumbledore's story, told vicariously through Rowling, is a metaphor to the suppressed love faced by many (particularly older) queer people, it is just that - a metaphor.

A Necessary Commitment

By Jacy Good

The American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment is a document outlining steps which must be taken by colleges and universities across the country in order to reduce their impact on global warming. Since the Commitment was introduced in October of 2006, four hundred and fifteen presidents of colleges and universities have signed the commitment, with that number rising every day.

Cheer on the Lady Mules, too

By Amy Cohen

"No one comes to watch the girls play, they just aren't as popular," is an answer from my teammate that I have a hard time forgetting when asking her why there seemed to be no one in the stands cheering for one of the women's sports teams last year. That answer repeats in my mind every time I look up at the stands at one of my own games, only to find that 75% of our fans are parents and the rest are our roommates.
