Operations for the Alpha Epsilon Pi chapter at the College were suspended on Sept. 25. The suspension was put into place by their Nationals, not the College, and will hold until at least the year 2010.

While there have been numerous incidents over the past four years with individual members of the fraternity, it was the College's decision to revoke the chapter's house this semester after a violation of the terms in their lease that initiated the most recent investigation held by national headquarters.

According to Chris Jachimowicz, Director of Student Leadership Development and Greek Affairs, the only involvement the College had with the incident was notifying Nationals of the loss of housing for the chapter this year.

He also said that the College was disappointed to hear that the chapter was being suspended because there were so many leaders from the fraternity who had put in endless amounts of efforts to turn around the chapter.

This decision was not based on Alpha Epsilon Pi as a whole, but on the fact that the individual acts of its members were not improving despite the efforts of the management policies being put into place. The suspension was an act of safety and prevention.

Incidents were always presented to presidents of the fraternity as violated actions made by specific members, and never as the fraternity as a whole. If the College wishes to expand the Greek Organization in the year 2010, Alpha Epsilon Pi will be give full consideration to once again hold a chapter on campus.

After the decision of suspension was made, alumni of the fraternity were all contacted with a letter from Jachimowicz and informed of the situation. In the letter, he explained the situation and expressed his regret in having to deliver the disappointing news after having worked in an attempt with Nationals for several years to bring the fraternity into line.

Even though the fraternity was suspended due to the acts of individual members, as a whole, the chapter did contribute to the College community. Annually, the fraternity held a golf outing which raised money for the Camelot for Children, a non-profit organization for seriously, chronically and terminally ill, handicapped or disabled children.

In addition, the fraternity helped to organize and set up a breast cancer fundraiser at the restaurant Bacio, and also assisted in raising $1,000 along with Alpha Chi Omega for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. They also participated in the Greek Community Clean Up.

In addition to these philanthropic achievements, the fraternity is happy to announce that two of this year's seniors have already been offered jobs at Deloitte and Touche, which is Business Week's number one company to begin a career.

The past few years have been challenging for the fraternity, especially for those few members who have dedicated themselves to bettering their chapter's image and status.
