On Tues., Nov. 13 The Cops 'n' Kids Literacy Program of Quota International Bethlehem, College students and Looper's Grille and Bar teamed together to address the dilemma of children's lack of nutrition within the area.

Many children in the surrounding area that belong to singe-parent families, or have parents who work long hours, often find themselves grabbing unhealthy snacks and not having substantial meals for dinner. It is necessary for these children to learn about proper nutrition so that they can prepare healthier meals.

The program, Kids Can Cook, helps inner-city families meet the challenge of serving nutritious meals in the absence of working parents. With the guidance of the participating groups, 30 pupils were given the necessary skills to provide a nutritious meal for themselves or other family members while also being sure to stay safe in the kitchen. Kids Can Cook took place at Northampton Community College's Fowler Family Southside Center in Bethlehem.

Community support for this event was also seen with generous donations made by companies such as Giant, Wegmans and Rodale Press.

"The children really seemed to enjoy their time. Many of them already cook for or help cook for their families. The kids seemed really eager to learn a new recipe and were thrilled that they got to take supplies to make the recipe at home." said Jason Tenenbaum '09.
