Two years ago, Chris Jachimowicz advocated a mid-year turn around for campus organizations. The Executive Board of The Weekly at the time thought this would be a bad idea for the organization because the administrators, staff and faculty with whom we work on a daily basis generally change over at the end of the academic year.

While I respect the decision of my predecessor, after working under her during her second semester senior year, I do not feel that any second semester senior should hold the time consuming, stressful and demanding yet rewarding and commendable position of Editor-in-Chief. I watched my predecessor make decisions that I do not feel that anyone should have to make during their final semester as a college student. Go to 50 days or put out this week's edition of The Weekly? Spend the weekend in Atlantic City with friends or stay behind to prepare for the upcoming week? At this point in my college career, I don't want to be forced to make decisions such as these. I've sacrificed countless hours of sleep, grades and at times a social life to make this newspaper happen and I think that I need some time to relax and unwind before entering the real world.

A mid-year turn around will allow the new staff to have the opportunity to ask questions and use this past staff to help guide them along the way. Running a weekly newspaper isn't easy. It's essentially a full time job, on top of being a student, and I'm ready to step back. I think that my continued presence in The Weekly office next semester, after my time as Editor-in-Chief, will be a huge advantage for whoever takes over after me.

Two and a half years ago, I fell down the stairs and broke my leg. The next thing I knew, I was the News Editor for The Weekly. 55 issues later I've met some amazing people, endured some intolerable migraines, and learned a whole lot.

I'm not yet sure of what I will do with myself next semester when my planner is no longer filled with meetings that require me running up to the third floor of Haas and my Tuesday nights are no longer spent in the ML Underground reading and re-reading articles for hours on end, but I do know that my Muhlenberg experience would not have been the same if it wasn't for my time with The Weekly.

It still hasn't hit me that it's over, but maybe people will finally start to know me as Jamie, and not "The Weekly."
