I have enjoyed writing for The Weekly another semester and I want to close off 2007 with a few comments on various issues.

I think the renewed interest of the Bush administration in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is a positive thing. However, I believe they will run into the same difficulties the Clinton administration did about 10 years ago. Neither side has a dynamic enough leader to rally support for a compromise. Beyond that, the fact that Hamas controls a portion of the Palestian territories will make any negotiated plan very difficult to carry out.

As the war in Iraq drags further and further along, expect to see more support for a partition plan dividing Iraq into three loosely affiliated nation-states. It is a practical way to limit sectarian fighting, although re-locating many citizens would be a long and arduous process.

The writers strike in Hollywood is a very bad thing. There is nothing worse than the prospect of having nothing else on T.V. but reality television. People don't want to sit down in their living rooms at night and watch the everyday people they see in the street make fools of themselves. The writers are the people who make television worth watching.

When it is all said and done, Rudy Guiliani will be running for President against Hillary Clinton. It should be a closely contested race, although winning for Clinton will be a very difficult task due to the national popularity of Guiliani. He will run his campaign based on his reaction after September 11th, which will be tough to counter from the Clinton campaign.

The situation in Pakistan is crucial to the future of America's ability to limit the influence of Al-Queda, in and around Afghanistan. It is essential that whoever ends up in control of the nation actively uses America's money and support to hunt down members of terrorist organization along the border.

Don't expect to see Iran's nuclear program shut down anytime soon. The relations between our current administration and their administration are too hostile to accomplish anything. Also, more influence is needed from the different nations of the European Union. Russia and China are never going to push hard for sanctions due to their business relations with Iran.

Finally, I can't finish this article without mentioning our football team whose season just ended with a 38-21 loss to Wesley College in the second round of the NCAA playoffs.

Regardless of last Saturday's outcome, the 2007 Mules were the first outright Conference champion team in our school's history; the first team to have an undefeated regular season and the first team to win 11 games.

We appreciate the support we received all season and hope to see even more people come out next year to games, both home and away.
