For many of the Muhlenberg Men's Basketball players, the triple overtime loss to Johns Hopkins seemed to be as heartbreaking a loss as they had suffered all year. Though they may have been right at the time, only four days later the Mules suffered an equally deflating loss, this time at the hands of Franklin & Marshall.

Last Wednesday the Mules (6-9 4-4) played in a triple-overtime game for the fifth time in their history. Unfortunately, the result didn't differ from the previous four 3OT thrillers as they fell 100-91. The Mules gave it their all as they provided a number of final second heroics. With 18 seconds remaining and the Mules down by three, junior Darrell Roth hit a three-pointer to knot the game at 66.

Then, in the first overtime, junior Mike Bernardini tipped in a lob pass which not only tied the game but fell through the net as the buzzer sounded, sending the Muhlenberg bench into a frenzy and the game into a second overtime.

Without question, the momentum that was generated by the Bernardini shot carried into the second overtime as the Mules scored 7 points in the first minute. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins came back strong and hit a game-tying three-pointer with only 12 seconds remaining and the game progressed into a third overtime. The Mules still had a chance with 2 minutes remaining and trailing by only 1, but a pair of free-throws and a three-pointer from the Blue Jays seemed to crush whatever life was left in the Mules. Some other positives that came out of the loss were that sophomore Obi Nwizugbo with 19 points, junior Chris Macintosh with 12 and Bernardini with 34 all notched career-highs.

On Saturday, the Mules traveled to Franklin & Marshall and, once again played their hearts out. With 4:33 to go in the game the Mules held a 4-point lead. But the fatigue from Wednesday's game set in and the Diplomats scored the last 7 points of the game. Bernardini's 18 points led the Mules for third straight game.
