In recognition of Black History Month Trexler Library has set up an honorary display. In a glass case on the first floor five prominent African-American Muhlenberg College alumni are displayed with their achievements at the College and life after graduating.
The idea for the display was decided on by the library where they typically have a rotating display, and this month, they wanted to recognize the importance of African-American history while also connecting it to the College.
After coming up with the idea the library went to the Multicultural Office, Development Office, and Alumni Office and asked for the names of African-American alumni who are renowned in their field. The following five alumni were chosen to be presented in the display: Dennis M. Williams Jr. '97, Roma W. Theus II, Esquire '69, Beth Adderly Evans '92, Jacqueline Tibbs Copeland '69, and Daniel Bosket '75.
Dennis Williams played on the College's varsity football team, studied history and secondary education, and is now the Principal at Hatboro-Horsham High School in Pennsylvania. Roma Theus studied political science, is a former member of the Board of Trustees, and works as Committee Chair and Public Relations Co-Chair for DRI - The Voice of the Defense Bar-Corp. Integrity and White Collar Crime.
Beth Evans studied psychology and accounting and is now the Associate Vice President and Executive Director of Enrollment Management at St. John's College in New York City. Jacqueline Copeland studied political science and is currently the Director of Education and Public Programs at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore.
Daniel Bosket studied economics and accounting, was on the College's wrestling team, and is a Branch President of Allentown NAACP, and Project Director of the Community Action Development Corporation of Allentown.
In the display case are pictures of each alumni along with a description of where they are now. Muhlenberg yearbooks and photos of the individual's places of work are also out for the College community to see.
Please be sure to stop by this display, located on the first floor of the library, and take a few minutes to admire the achievements of these deserving alumni.
