Next Sat., Feb. 23, the second annual Cystic Fibrosis on Campus Benefit Dinner will be held. The event will be taking place in the Great Room in Seegers Union at 6:00 p.m., and all money raised will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Admission to the dinner is $15 for students and $25 for others.
Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive systems of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States.
CFC was founded last Feb. 2007 by Joe Armenti '10, President of CFC, and Jordan Sones. It is the first organization of its kind that focuses on students at the college level bringing awareness and raising money for the fight against Cystic Fibrosis.
Student involvement is essential to the success of CFC, and there are plenty of opportunities on campus for students to get involved. For example, in addition to attending the benefit, students can purchase CFC wristbands, and make the effort to recycle their empty inkjet/laser printer cartridges and old cell phones in the designated boxes that have been placed by CFC in dorms around campus. CFC donates all proceeds toward raising money for CF research; just check out the organization's website at www.cfoncampus.org.
The Cystic Fibrosis benefit dinner is the organization's biggest fundraiser of the year.
"We are looking forward to another very successful dinner. We had a great turnout last year, and this year we plan on having even more students attend. Members of the surrounding community are some of our biggest supporters and it's great that we can hold an event to bring them together in show of support for the cause and our organization," said Jordan Sones '10, Vice President of Cystic Fibrosis on Campus (CFC).
Dinner will be served buffet style, with a special performance by Noteworthy thrown into the mix for some dinner tunes. Furthermore,. the head of the Lehigh Valley chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be in attendance to support the efforts of CFC.
"This dinner will be a great way of celebrating our past accomplishments as well as looking to the future," said Kristen Peacock '10. Secretary of CFC. While the RSVP date has passed for the benefit, there are still spots available for those who wish to attend. For more information contact Angela Lucci '10.
