Last Saturday the College's Wrestling Team faced its final regular season Centennial Conference matches. They came away with one win against Washington and Lee, 25-15, and one loss against McDaniel, 25-18. Juniors Billy Hall and Justin Fitch went 2-0. 141-pound Hall added two pins to his record. Both were recorded around 1:53 and 1:03. Hall will be going into the CC Championship Tournament with a winning record of 24-4.
Fitch, at 174 lbs., beat his W&L opponent 8-4. His match against McDaniel's 144-pounder also ended in victory by decision, 4-1. At 157 lbs. junior Matt Friedman took control late in his first match. He came out on top, winning 5-4. The upper weight classes provided the points to win the dual meet. Senior Chris Swenson won 8-5 at 197 lbs. Shortly after, senior heavyweight Joe Tartar beat his opponent by a major decision of 11-1. Muhlenberg's momentum carried into the match with McDaniel. They won the 133 lbs. class by forfeit. Hall's second pin was followed by senior co-captain Joe DeCampo's close victory, 7-6. Another win wasn't seen until Fitch wrestled at 171 lbs. and that was the last win of the day.
The wrestlers had a few days off last week after a tough match against Ursinus. "We are still a little beat up," says senior co-captain David Lavin, "but are working to be in shape for the Conference Championship." It was a bittersweet day for the wrestlers. Now they prepare for Friday evening's match-up against Messiah.
